Today, I want to talk about one of my favorite fantasy book series, From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout. If you haven’t read it yet, what are you waiting for? This series has taken the book world by storm with its gripping plot, swoon-worthy romance, and intriguing characters. Speaking of which, let’s take a closer look at these characters and their physical descriptions.
From Poppy, the curvy and fiery protagonist with red hair and blue eyes, to the charming and devilishly handsome Casteel, who’s got a mischievous glint in his eye and a sly grin on his face, the characters are as captivating as they are diverse. And let’s not forget about Hawk, or should I say, “Hawk,” who’s got a mysterious air about him and a dangerous allure that’s impossible to resist.
But wait, why only describe them with words when we can bring them to life with some amazing fantasy artwork? That’s right, I’ve created some original artwork to showcase these characters and their unique appearances. So grab your favorite snack, and let’s dive into this world of fantasy and art.
Fantasy Artwork: Importance and Overview

Character Descriptions and Artwork
Penellaphe (Poppy)
Let me tell you about Poppy. She’s not your typical protagonist. With fiery red hair and piercing green eyes, Poppy stands out from the crowd. Her curves are nothing to be ashamed of, either. In fact, they add to her allure and make her even more captivating. But don’t let her looks fool you. Poppy is fierce and resilient, with a strong will that won’t be broken by anyone.
She’s been through a lot in her life, but that hasn’t stopped her from fighting for what she believes in. Poppy is loyal to a fault, and will go to great lengths to protect those she cares about. She’s not afraid to speak her mind and stand up for what’s right, even if it means putting herself in danger.
And let’s not forget about her abilities. Poppy has a special connection to the gods, and her powers are something to behold. She’s not afraid to use them when the situation calls for it, and her enemies would be wise to fear her.
Through my custom artwork created using Midjourney, ( Poppy without the scars) I aimed to capture Poppy’s strength and beauty. Her fiery red hair flows around her, exuding confidence and power. Her green eyes sparkle with determination, and you can see the fierce spirit burning inside her.
Casteel
Casteel. Where do I even begin? He’s a complex character, that’s for sure. With his striking good looks and piercing golden/amber eyes, it’s no wonder he catches everyone’s attention. But there’s so much more to him than meets the eye.
First off, Casteel is a natural leader. He’s confident, strategic, and isn’t afraid to take charge when necessary. But don’t mistake his confidence for arrogance, because he’s also incredibly humble and selfless. He’s always putting others before himself, even if it means risking his own safety.
Physically, he’s tall with a lean, athletic build. His black hair is perfectly styled and always seems to be just the right amount of messy. And let’s not forget those striking green eyes. They’re like looking into a forest at sunset.
But what really sets Casteel apart is his heart. He’s been through so much in his life, and yet he still manages to be kind, compassionate, and fiercely loyal to those he loves. He’s not afraid to show his emotions, which is refreshing in a world where many people try to hide them.
My custom artwork of Casteel captures his physical appearance perfectly, from his sharp jawline to his intense gaze. But it also captures his personality and spirit, which is just as important as his looks. I think it’s safe to say that Casteel is one of the most intriguing and captivating characters I’ve ever come across in a fantasy book.
Tawny
Tawny is a character in the From Blood and Ash book series who may seem insignificant at first, but don’t be fooled by her humble position as a servant. She’s an essential member of the story with a warm heart and an unwavering loyalty to her friends.
Her gentle nature is reflected in her physical appearance. With her long, curly brown hair that cascades down her back and her big, kind brown eyes, Tawny has a comforting aura that instantly puts you at ease. Her skin is smooth and golden, a testament to the hours she spends outdoors tending to the gardens.
Despite her unassuming nature, Tawny is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to defending those she cares about. Her proficiency with a bow is impressive, and she’s always willing to risk her life for the greater good. She has a strong sense of justice and a deep desire to help others, which makes her an invaluable ally to have on your side.

Kirean
Kieran is one of the most intriguing characters in the From Blood and Ash series. He has a mysterious air about him that makes you wonder what he’s thinking and what his true intentions are. He’s a tall, handsome man with short, dark hair and piercing blue eyes. His chiseled jawline and high cheekbones give him a regal appearance, but his easy smile and relaxed demeanor make him approachable.
Kieran is a complex character with a dark past, and it’s evident in the way he carries himself. He’s reserved, often keeping his thoughts and feelings to himself, but he’s also fiercely loyal to those he cares about. He’s a skilled fighter and can hold his own in a battle, but he’s not one to seek out conflict unnecessarily.
Vikter
He is the captain of the Royal Guard and serves as a protector to Poppy, the main character. Vikter is described as a tall man with a muscular build, and his face is chiseled and angular. He has Sandy hair, steely blue eyes that seem to bore right through you.
What I find most interesting about Vikter is his unwavering loyalty to Poppy. Despite being a member of the Royal Guard, he sees Poppy as more than just his charge. He genuinely cares for her and wants to see her succeed in her mission. He is a man of few words, but when he does speak, his words carry weight.
I created custom artwork for Vikter using Midjourney, and I tried to capture his stoic, no-nonsense personality in the image. He is depicted standing tall and proud, ready to protect Poppy at all costs. The artwork highlights his sharp features and piercing gaze, giving a glimpse into the steely determination that lies beneath his surface.
Alastir
As a member of the Atlantian Guard, he is responsible for protecting the lives of the Ascended and their kingdom. Alastir is tall and muscular, with dark hair and piercing blue eyes that seem to look right through you.
What I find most intriguing about Alastir is his quiet strength and loyalty. He is fiercely dedicated to his duty and will stop at nothing to protect those under his care. Despite his tough exterior, there is a softness to him that is apparent when he is with those he cares about.
Creating custom artwork for Alastir was a fun challenge. I wanted to capture his strength and intensity, but also his softer side. I portrayed him with a serious expression, standing tall and proud, with a hint of a smile on his lips
The importance of fantasy artwork cannot be overstated, especially in the context of From Blood and Ash. Through the custom artwork created using Midjourney, we were able to bring the characters to life and provide a visual representation that complements the author’s written descriptions.
From the fierce and determined Poppy to the charming and enigmatic Casteel, each character was brought to life through the use of our custom artwork. Tawny, Kieran, and other supporting characters were not left out as we paid equal attention to their physical descriptions and created artwork that accurately portrayed their features.
